WTF is $CRA?
Crabada is one of the leading projects within the GameFi space, but what actually is it?
Crabada is a fully on-chain, idle play-to earn game built on the Avalanche network. Set in an underwater world occupied by fierce Crabs, (represented by NFTs) where players can breed, lend, rent and battle crabs to earn currency.
There are 3 tokens within the Crabada ecosystem, each with an individual use case:
CRA is the ecosystem's Governance token. CRA is rewarded via staking and through playing the game during the initial incentive period. Token owners can help decide the kingdom’s future.
TUS is the in-game currency, which can be earned through mining, looting and lending Crabs (more on each of these later).
Finally, we have CRAM. CRAM is an amulet earned token, rewarded through staking CRA. This can be used for exclusive in-game perks and rewards!
There are currently 3 core segments within the game, including mining, looting and lending.
Mining
Players are able to create a Mining Party (consisting of 3 Crabs) and deploy their party to various mines within the game. Once the mine has been chosen, the Crabs will begin to mine in the chosen area. Each expedition to the mines takes 4 hours to complete, with the player being rewarded with 3.75 CRA and 303.75 TUS. This can, however, be affected by modifiers!
A prime Crab that specialises in mining can collect more treasures, increasing your mining rewards by 10%. Alongside this, Crabs with high speed attributes can also reduce the mining expedition time from 4 hours, down to a minimum of 3.5 hours. This is where having Crabs with high stats comes into play, creating an increased demand for particular Crabs. It is also worth noting that each Crab can only participate in one mining expedition at a time, and cannot be simultaneously used in other activities (such as looting/lending).

Looting
One of my favourite mechanisms in Crabada is looting. In a similar fashion to mining, players can form a Looting Party (consisting of 3 Crabada) and deploy their party to loot a mine that another player’s Mining Party is currently occupying to try and steal some treasure! These looting missions last between 1 to 2.5 hours, depending on whether the Mining Party chooses to send reinforcements.
Both players have the option to hire up to an additional 2 reinforcement Crabs during combat. Following the first round of combat, the defender is given the option of a second reinforcement. If chosen, the attacker is then given the same option. Whilst this is seen as risky in comparison to mining, the rewards are 0.3 CRA and 24.3 TUS for each loot regardless of success. Additionally, a successful loot would steal 65% of rewards from the mining party, giving looters 2.4375 CRA and 197.4375 TUS. The turn based system can be seen in the image below:

Lending
Another great feature within the game is lending, meaning idle Crabs that are not currently in a Looting or Mining Party can still earn rewards. Idle Crabs can be deployed to the Tavern as mercenaries, allowing other players to pay a fee (set by the seller) to hire your Crabs to be used as reinforcements in their own party.
The Tavern
Marketplace
Similarly to other play-to-earn games, Crabada has its own marketplace. In this marketplace players can view their current inventory as well as buy/sell Crabs (NFTs). All sellers are charged a 3.85% fee per sale.

Factions
This leads us nicely onto different types of Crabs available on the marketplace. Each Crab has a primary faction, which is determined by its class. Based on these Factions, Crabs inherit strengths and weaknesses making them more or less suited to particular tasks. The 6 Factions can be seen below:
Classes
Alongside Factions, there are 8 classes of Crab in total. Each Crab’s stats are determined by their class and their body parts (their shell, pincers etc). Furthermore, there are 8 different breed types within each class, with each breed type determining a Crab’s battle skills.
Breeding
Breeding is also an important process within the Crabada ecosystem. In order to begin with the breeding process, players naturally need 2 Crabada as well as sufficient breeding material to cover the cost. Each time 2 Crabs breed, a transaction is created on the blockchain, with it being confirmed upon breeding completion. Each individual Crab can be bred up to a maximum of 5 times, with the cost increasing each time. Upon completion of breeding, players will receive an egg. An egg will then take 5 days to hatch in to a new Crab, at which point that Crab is then ready to be used within the game.

PvP (Q2 2022)
All of this links nicely into PvP. Based on the above stats, certain Crabs will be more suited to specific roles when battling. The 3 main archetypes have been split as followed:
Tank.
Damage.
Support.
In order to maximise success, a balanced team is likely to be required (although we’ll wait and see what the true meta is)!
Roadmap
Finally, we can see the latest roadmap for Crabada below. As you can see, the team has a lot in the pipeline and has grand plans for the ecosystem (with PvP and PvE being my personal highlights)!
To close off this post, I’d like to give a huge shout out to the Crabada community. The community has been particularly supportive and I’ve had some great conversations with people regarding Crabada. It truly is one of the strongest communities I’ve come across. A big thank you to everyone who helped and contributed!
You can keep up with the project by following their official Twitter (@PlayCrabada) and joining their discord!
